Ko au te awa.
Ko te awa ko au.
The river flows from the mountains to the sea.
I am the river.

Services we offer

Counselling & therapy
There are four therapists who are are professionally trained and experiences in counselling survivors of sexual assault. One therapist works in the Ruapehu region and the others work in our Whanganui office. All therapists are members of professional associations.

Prevention education
Prevention education programmes build awareness of situations, skills, and strategies, to reduce the risk of sexual abuse occurring. Whanganui Safe and Free has two core programmes to offer the community, and the capacity to adapt educational material to address the particular needs of different ages, family or community groups.

Advocacy & support
Our Kai Awhina (Family Support workers), provide wider wrap-around support in addition to the intense therapeutic work of the counselors. Practical support and advocacy, including referral when necessary to appreciate agencies for specific interventions, is also effective in helping to remove identified barriers that can hindering the family and whanau from healing.
How we can help individuals, whanau, schools or organisations
